Claude N. BrysonMay 3, 1920 - May 8, 2016Funeral services for Claude N. Bryson, 96 of Middleton and Emmett who died Sunday, May 8 in Middleton will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 17 at Potter Funeral Chapel, Emmett. Interment will be at 1:00 pm at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery in Boise. A viewing will be held on Monday, May 16 from 2:00 - 8:00 pm at Potter Funeral Chapel.Claude was born on May 3, 1920 in Prineville, Oregon to Joseph and Grace (Faught) Bryson. He lived on a ranch on Bear Creek. As a teenager he broke horses and eventually ventured out on his own working at large cattle and horse ranches around southern Idaho, Arizona and Nevada. Claude joined the United States Army and served during World War II. He earned his Pistol Sharpshooter and rifle Marksman badges. He also had the European Middle Eastern Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars and Good conduct Medal. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in October, 1945. Claude worked on several ranches following the war. He married Margaret Gifford in Elko, Nevada. They had six kids, four boys and two girls. Claude was a "cowboy's cowboy". He was a foreman in Riddle, Idaho on a large ranch and later cow-boss at the IL Ranch in northern Nevada. He spent 4 ½ years as cow-boss at the Roaring Springs Ranch in Oregon.His family was growing and it was time for them to settle down and they moved to Idaho. In the 60's and 70's he worked at the Emmett Livestock Sale yard and then spent three years as cow-boss for AL Cattle Company. Claude worked 18 years for the Gem County Mosquito Abatement well into his 80's, In 2005, at the age of 85, Claude was inducted into the Buckaroo Hall of Fame in Winnemucca, Nevada. He participated in a team roping event as a heeler at the age of 90 and won A Silver Belt Buckle.He is survived by Bob and Wanda (Bryson) Hosier (Emmett,ID), Jim and Pansy Bryson (Letha,ID), Tom and Mickee Bryson (Middleton,ID), Susan Bryson (Shoshone,ID), Alan and Lori Bryson of (Aurora, OR), and Joe and Barbara Bryson (Emmett,ID). He had 21 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Gordon Gruber, granddaughter Cherie Ann Bryson, step granddaughter Kerri Lynn Stiers, brother Harold Bryson, sister and Brother in law, Edna and Jake Settelmeyer.
