RACINE - Clarence Henry Belland, age 94, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on August 16, 2016. He was born on October 5, 1921 to Edgar and Delilah (nee Henry) Belland. He was united in marriage to Theresa Olsen on August 25, 1945 at The Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. Theresa preceded him in death on February 23, 2007. Clarence proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the North African and European theatres. He was employed as a machinist, working for Oster’s for over 20 years and for Dumore’s until his retirement in 1976. He was a dedicated member of Bethany United Methodist Church until its closing, serving as both a board member and janitor. Clarence was “very handy with his hands” and was skilled at woodworking and chair caning. He also was an avid golfer and fisherman. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Barbara (Bill) Symonds of Wheeling, IL; grandsons: David (Melinda) Symonds of Evergreen, CO and Joey Symonds of Oceanside, CA; a brother, Bob (Evie) Belland of Racine, a sister-in-law, Lorraine Ventura of Freehold, NJ; nieces who lived nearby: Cheryl Belland and Mary (Steven) Jensen both of Racine; and many other relatives and friends. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Delilah Belland; his wife, Theresa Belland; his brother, Elliott Belland; and a sister, Betty Kempken. Funeral services for Clarence will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Wilson Funeral Home (1212 Lathrop Avenue) at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. James Preston officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment, with full military honors, will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials made to Kingswood United Methodist Church (401 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089) in honor of Clarence have been suggested by the family.
