A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene.Clara was born on July 6, 1921 in Clyde, Texas to the late Ross Berryman and Sarah Alice (Tate) Young. She passed away on Saturday morning, November 27, 2016 at a Abilene nursing home.Clara married Charles Roy Cheek on August 8, 1940 in Elmdale, Texas.She had lived in Abilene after her marriage to Charles, became a private duty nurse in 1952, which she practiced until her retirement.Clara was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Esther Bible Club. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, River Oaks, and had served as the Worthy Matron of the 1013 Chapter.Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Timothy John Stanley; sisters, Bessie Pierce and Hazel Tedford; and brothers, Robert and Roy Young.She is survived by her son, Ronnie Cheek and his wife Linda of Abilene, Texas; daughter, Clara Thompson of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, Randy Cheek and wife Dorthea of Belton, Texas, Jennifer Russel and husband Joseph of Kaufman, Texas, and Lora Stanley of Abilene, Texas; and great grandchildren, Mackenzie Russell, Joshua Stanley and wife Ali, Haley Russell, Emily Cheek and Jacob Cheek.Memorial contributions may be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605.You may view and sign the online guest book at
