Clara Avis Chamberlain, 99MODOC - Clara Avis Chamberlain, 99, of Modoc, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Summers Pointe in Winchester.She was born on August 24, 1917 in Putnam County to Elmer and Clara (Jones) Cline. She was a 1934 graduate and valedictorian of Cloverdale High School at the age of 16 in Putnam County. She and her sister moved to Indianapolis after graduating and worked sewing ties in a factory. In 1939, Avis married Raymond Chamberlain, and became a homemaker. She attended Modoc United Methodist Church and loved being with her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Avis is survived by her daughter, Linda (John) Bruner of Union City, IN; her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Chamberlain of Losantville; three grandchildren, Lisa (Brad) Keesling of Modoc, Jason (Amy) Chamberlain of Parker City and Jeremy (Melissa) Bruner of Lexington, KY; eight great-grandchildren, Emma, Leah and Olivia Keesling, Eli, Liz and Abe Chamberlain, Aaron and Colby Bruner; a sister, Margaret Benbow of Tucson, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty-one years, Raymond Chamberlain; a son, Lee Chamberlain; and two sisters, Lora Roberts and Alta Cooksey.Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Winchester with Pastor Brian Richmond officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Losantville.Friends and relatives may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and also one hour prior to services.
