Clara Jean Wright-Christopher, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on October 11, 2024, in Indianola, MS surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 20, 1952 in Isola, MS to the late Mr. Ed and Maezine Wright, Clara grew up in a close-knit family where she learned the values of kindness, compassion, and hard work. She was a proud graduate of Mississippi Valley University, where she earned a degree in education. Clara dedicated her life to teaching and nurturing young minds as an elementary school teacher in the Humphrey County Public Schools for over 15 years.
Clara had an extraordinary ability to connect with children, fostering a love for learning that shaped the lives of hundreds of students. Her classroom was a place of creativity, laughter, and encouragement, and her impact was felt long after her students moved on.
Outside the classroom, Clara was known for her love of sowing and great cooking which brought joy to all who passed by her home. She was also an active member of the Zion Travelers Baptist Church, where she volunteered her time singing in the choir. Her unwavering faith and dedication to service were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Clara is survived by her six children, Tyrone Wright, Terrell Wright (Yvonne), Walter Christopher (Shantrice), Shunta Christopher ( Latonya), Tony Christopher, and Jasmine Chatman Davis (Cornelius); her 31 grandchildren, her brother Johnny Wright of Chicago, and sister Helen Jean Tanner of Tupelo, MS., Monya Lowe of Tupelo, MS., sis-in-law Dorothy Gayfield and Alice Wright. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Mary Gayfield of Delhi, La, Beatrice Wright of Indianapolis, John Gayfield of Chicago, Illinois, Eddie Wright (Ella Mae) of Isola, MS, Lennon Wright of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Home going Service funeral will be held in Clara’s honor on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. officiating Doctor Joe Jackson Pastor. 3938 Tupper Road, Belzoni, MS 39038 at Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Isola, MS. Burial will follow on the church grounds. Friends and family are invited to repast at 15390 US HWY 49 Belzoni, MS, after the service.
Clara will be remembered for her generous spirit, her love of family, and her commitment to making the world a brighter place.
