Christina Velasquez-WernickRedding, CA1973 - 2017In Loving Memory of Christina Velasquez-WernickChristy passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2017.Christy was born on March 15, 1973 in Sacramento, CA to George and Sandra Velasquez. Christy graduated from Del Norte High School in 1991. Shortly after graduation, Christy met and married Tom Wernick. Together for nine years in Crescent City, they raised Toms daughter Heather. Christy owned Cut & Polished Salon in Crescent City prior to moving to Redding in 2003, and continued her career in nail art at Claws and The Hair Lounge. Christy worked for over 20 years in nail art and enjoyed every minute of it. It provided her the opportunity to interact with her large list of clients, co-workers and their families. She had a huge heart and frequently helped her clients and friends during their times of duress. She often made cakes for birthdays, weddings or a special meal for an ailing friend. Not long after moving to Redding Christy met her boyfriend Tony Martinez.Christy enjoyed scrapbooking, boating, shopping, and hanging out with family and friends. Christy loved to travel, and especially going to Giants games. She and Tony shared many adventures together over the past 14 years.Christy is survived by Father George Velasquez of Carmichael CA; Sister Andrea Velasquez of Beverly Hills CA; Grandmother Joyce Burrell of Redding; Grandfather Erno Benner of Jacksonville OR; Aunts Darlene Beebe (Glen) of Roseville CA; Geraldine Velasquez of Sacramento CA; Connie Motuliki of Salt Lake City UT; Barbara Blankenship of Yuba City CA; Michelle Karlow of Chicago IL; Uncles Mike Velasquez of Sacramento CA; Gary Benner of Reno NV; and Greg Benner of Brentwood CA; Cousins Jessica Link, Dana Marshall, Sarena Tompkins, Tiffany Benner, and Jeremy Benner; many second cousins that all called her "Aunt Christy"; boyfriend Tony Martinez of Redding CA.Christy was a very warm and beautiful person. Her infectious smile and laughter lit up a room and brought comfort to those around her. Christy gave out so much love. We are crestfallen at her sudden passing.
