Charles Samuel Evans, Jr.Hayfork, CAJune 20, 1949 - January 8, 2017Charles Samuel Evans, Jr. was born on June 20, 1949 in Portland, Oregon. He attended Lake Oswego High School in Portland before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He did two tours in Vietnam working as an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic on helicopters. After returning to Portland he earned his civilian A and P license and spent his working career in the Helicopter Industry working for such companies as Evergreen Helicopters, Redding Air Service and Croman Corporation. The highlight for him was working on the Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane, his favorite being "79R" of which he was Crew Chief. He helicopter logged, fought fires, set towers etc. all over the western states and Canada.Charley married Victoria Scripps in 1975. After spending many years traveling with the helicopter industry they would eventually settle in Hayfork, Ca where they raised their two sons, Douglas and Thomas and shared their love of horses. Later winning the Fastest Filly Pacer of the year for the state of California with homebred horse, "Fast N Loose."Charley loved spending time with his boys, riding horses and motorcycles, shooting and collecting and tinkering on old cars. He continued to drive his 1964 station wagon until the end. He died January 8, 2017. Our thanks goes to the excellent physicians and staff at the Veteran's Administration hospital in Portland, The VA Clinic, Oakdale Heights Assisted Living and Mercy Medical Center Hospital all in Redding, Ca. Charley was preceded in death by his father Judge Charles S. Evans, Sn., and his brother Tom. He is survived by his mother, Carey Evans, sons, Doug (Amanda) and Tom, former wife Vicki, brothers, Bill and Jim, sisters, Mary Alice and Elizabeth and granddaughter Vivian.There will be a Memorial Service at Riverview Cemetery Chapel in Portland, Oregon at 11 am on January 14, 2017.Please sign the guest book at
