Charles R. Velzka STURTEVANT Charles Chuck R. Velzka, 87, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on April 24, 1927, the son of Charles and Ethel (nee: Dubuque) Velzka. Chuck proudly served during World War II in the United States Army. On October 8, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dona Brandt. Chuck was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School and Layton School of Arts. He had been employed as a commercial artist for S. C. Johnson Wax for 33 years. Everyone at S. C. Johnsons enjoyed Charlies Caricatures. He also enjoyed doing watercolors and participating at the Starving Artist Fair, traveling and playing cards. Chuck had been an avid bowler and loved the Cubies, Packers and Badgers. Surviving are his daughter, Cathrine (Rodney) Austin of Yorkville; sons, Bob Velzka of Caledonia, Scot (Karen) Velzka of Franksville and Jerry (Donna)Velzka of Round Lake Heights, IL; four grandchildren, Kevin (Kristi) Moe, Alissa (Daniel) Mordja, Rebecca (Mark) Meldgaard and Nathan (fiancé, Brittney)Holewinski; seven great grandchildren, Tyler, Kylee, Hannah, Aiden, Tucker, Austin and Cameron. He is further survived by a sister, Elaine Kintzler, sister-in-law, Shirley Velzka, other relatives and many friends. A special thank you to his wonderful neighbors. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Dona on September 27, 2005, brothers, Robert and Donald, daughter-in-law, Emilie Velzka and special friend, Carol Ruzicka. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon. Private interment with will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
