KINSTON - Charles Lester Wade Sr., 81, died Friday, May 13, 2011. Charles was born on October 17, 1929, in Lenoir County, N.C., and grew up in the Falling Creek area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Heber and Helen Tyndall Wade, and a beloved pet "Bo." Mr. Wade served in the
United States Navy from 1951 to 1954 aboard the USS Menifee during the
Korean War. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He was employed at Auto Supply Company, out of Greenville up until six months ago. Charles had a passion for hunting and was a long time member of the Cayton Hunting Club and the Lenoir County Hunters Association. He was also a member of
VFW Post 4062 and American Legion Post 43. Charles was a very caring father and grandfather who loved fishing and carrying his grandchildren hunting with him. Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Wade Burrus of Snow Hill and Debra Wade Johnson and husband Lott, of Grifton; one son, Chuckie Wade and wife Penny, of Kinston; his companion Alice Smith, of the home; and six grandchildren, Brandon Andrews, Erica Lynn Johnson, Jessica Wade, Heather Gates, Daniel Johnson and Megan Johnson. Funeral services will be held Sunday evening, May 15, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Service, Ayden. The family will receive friends Sunday two hours prior to the service from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at 5742 Hwy. 11 North, Grifton, N.C.
