XENIA — Charles "Chuck" Reuben George, age 91, of the Springfield Masonic Community, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014. He was born on December 3, 1922 to Fred and Hazel George in Belmore, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his much loved wife, Betty, and his son, Drew. He is survived by his children: Amy Koogler (Tom) of Bellbrook, David George (Linda) of Xenia and Ann Simmons (Steve) of Cary, NC. Chuck leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Chuck graduated from Leipsic High School and volunteered in the United States Army Air Corps. He proudly served as a gunner/bombardier on a B-17 in Italy. After the war, he worked at WPAFB as an aviation mechanic. In 1956, he married the love his life, Betty. Five years later, he fulfilled his dreams of owning his own farm which has been passed on to his son, where he lives today. After raising four children on the farm, Chuck and Betty retired and moved to Vero Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed an active life of golfing, boating, traveling and volunteering. They came home to Ohio and spent their last years at the Springfield Masonic Community. Chuck enjoyed dressing up as Santa, mentoring children and talking to anyone who crossed his path. Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 10, 2014 in the Auditorium of the Springfield Masonic Home followed by a memorial service at 11:00 with a light lunch at 12:00 in the community center.
