Charles B. "Charlie" Kelland at age 97, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Kindred Homes in Yuma, where he was treated with great honor and respect for the last year and a half of his life. He was born on November 8, 1913 in Montrose, Missouri. Charlie personally observed the attack on Pearl Harbor while serving as a civilian construction worker and later joined the "Sea Bee's, the United States Construction Battalion". He was honorably discharged in 1945 after serving time in the Pacific. Charlie frequently visited Tacna, AZ. where his brother Roy and Family lived. He loved Dachshunds. He was still charming and witty in his final days. Charlie is survived by his two nieces and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Virginia "Ginny" Hainline; parents, Charles and Luella Kelland; three brothers, Roy, Edwin, Ralph and his sister, Florence. Cremation and ashes will be spread at his request. A private family service will be held at a later date in San Diego, California.Please sign the guestbook at
