Cecil Williams MarshallMemphis, TNCecil Williams Marshall, 88, died peacefully at home in Memphis, TN, on Sunday, August 6, 2017. She was born on November 13, 1928, in Memphis, and attended Miss Hutchison's School. After graduating from Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT, she attended Finch College in New York City. While visiting at
Yale University, she met and fell in love with Frank Hitchcock Marshall of Greenwich, CT, whom she married in January 1949. They made their home in Memphis, where they raised their children, Edie and Jim. For 48 years, Cecil and her beloved "Bunts" Marshall were a dashing couple about town. While he won tennis tournaments, she pursued her lifelong interest in fashion. With elegance, natural beauty, and statuesque figure, Cecil was sought after as a leading model of fashion shows for charities and her retail expertise at businesses such as Francis Wright, 23 Idlewild, and Joanie's among others. While she was a recognized style-maker of Memphis, Cecil chose to live her private life quietly, with an inner circle of trusted friends. Outspoken, with a marvelous sense of humor, she retained her singular individuality of style and mind until the end. Cecil Williams Marshall is predeceased by her husband (1997), Frank Hitchcock Marshall, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sneed Williams (Lynn Robinson), and her sister, Lynn Williams McGee. Those who remain and will cherish her memory are daughter, Edith Hitchcock Marshall; son, James Alrick Kilburn Marshall; niece, Robyn Raby (Van); nephew, Mac McGee (Carol), and her three special first cousins, Jim Robinson, Mimi Rose (Jerry) and Cynthia Tremblay.
