He graduated in 1950 from New Hanover High School. Carl was a smart businessman rising from the mailroom at the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad to the CEO and president of the Florida East Coast Railroad. He retired in 1999. He enjoyed surf fishing, summer vacations at Crescent Beach, bowling, cooking, reading, doing crossword puzzles and was a championship fast pitch softball pitcher. Most of all he was a devoted family man, loving husband and father. He cherished time with family, rocking on the back porch at the river with a scotch and water, oyster roasts, poker games and coffee with his buddies. Per Carl's wishes, the family will celebrate his life at his River home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation.
