ANGOLA — Canton Douglas Gillette, 2 1/2 years old, of Angola, Indiana, passed away at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Monday, April 18, 2016, after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Canton was born on Oct. 4, 2013, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Chad and Miranda (Davenport) Gillette. He was always happy and smiling, and had a strong will to survive. Everyone that knew Canton and his family lived by the motto "Canton Strong." He enjoyed playing baseball, and had his own batting cage in the family living room, where he could enjoy his passion. He also loved trucks, and tractors, and the family's three Labrador retrievers, Gunner, Dixie and Maggie. Survivors include his parents, Miranda and Chad Gillette of Angola, Indiana; grandparents, Kevin (Brenda) Davenport of Fremont, Indiana, Valerie Davenport of Angola, Indiana, Kim (Jeff) Friend of Orland, Indiana, and Doug (Renee) Gillette of Coldwater, Michigan; great-grandparents, Alice Friend of Orland, Indiana, and Penny (Donald) Meyers of Angola, Indiana; and great-great-grandmother, Lois Booth of Orland, Indiana. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Fairview Missionary Church, Angola, Indiana, with the Rev. Jon Bruney officiating. Canton will be laid to rest following services at Powers Cemetery, Angola, Indiana.
