Betty JonesMrs. Betty Jones, 89, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017.Betty was born May 3, 1928 in Harrison, Arkansas, daughter of Robert A. and Delta (Wagley) Mankin. On April 21, 1952, Betty gave birth to her one and only child, Deborah Ruth Bruton in Springfield, Mo. Her only grandchild, Anthony G. Schibilia from St. Charles, Mo. was born on July 16, 1981. On January 12, 1988 in Jefferson City, Mo., Betty married Corliss Jones who preceded her in death on October 20, 2002.Betty began working as a teenager to help support her family and had a strong determination and work ethic that she instilled in her daughter and grandson. She was the Assistant Manager and District Cashier for the Western Union Telegraph Company in Springfield, Mo. For over thirty years.Betty moved to Jefferson City in 1971 and worked at the Missouri Department of Agriculture as the state chairperson for the Missouri State Fair Queens. She then served as Manager of the Missouri Electric Cooperative Credit Union, later becoming an insurance broker at the Nicklas Insurance Agency until her retirement in 1994.She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for 46 years and an active member of the Jefferson City Country Club.Betty was blessed with so many amazing lifelong friends who welcomed her like family. She was a longtime season ticket holder and loyal supporter of the University of Missouri Football and Basketball programs. She loved entertaining, socializing, traveling, and making lasting memories with family and friends at her second home in Naples, Florida. Betty was truly a selfless person living her life always putting others first, spreading her positive outlook among all those in her life.She is lovingly survived by: one grandson, Anthony Schibilia of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Evelynn Schibilia also of Myrtle Beach and numerous cousins, other relatives, and lifelong friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Corliss; one daughter, Dr. Deborah Bruton in 1997; and one brother, James D. Mankin.Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017.Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Entombment will be held in the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, 201 Monroe Street, Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
