NEW PARK Betty Jean (Grove) Brainerd, 62, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on the morning of Sunday, June 7, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late David Arthur Grove and his wife, Laura M. (Jamison) Grove. Jean was the wife of James E. Brainerd, Sr. of New Park, and is survived by one daughter, Cindy Grove and her husband David of New Park; and three sons, Michael Brainerd and his wife Alexandra of Woodbridge, Va.; Scott Boyce and his wife Layla of York; and James (JJ) Brainerd, Jr. and his wife Ruth of York. She had six grandchildren, Ashley (husband Trenton), Ariel, Justin, Katherine, Keziah, and Isabella, and many other relatives. She also is survived by one sister, Joyce Grove of Parkton, Md.; and one brother, David Grove of New Park. Jean was born on October 14, 1952 in York. She graduated from Kennard-Dale High School in 1970. Her employment history included Bechtel and Catalytic Corporations at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, and most recently Wal-Mart in Shrewsbury. She was also a longtime member of the Fawn Grove Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Jean was well-known for her quick-witted humor and could always be relied upon to bring a smile to your face, all the way up to her passing. She enjoyed shopping and had a gift for interior decorating. She enjoyed traveling with her husband of 34 years, especially every year to Bass Harbor, Maine. Jean loved spending time with her family and was loved dearly by them. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, at Fawn Grove Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 987 Brown Road, New Park, PA 17352. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Fawn Grove Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., Stewartstown, is assisting the family.
