It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernice Smith, who left this world on August 2, 2024, at the age of 94. Bernice was born on January 23, 1930, in Bakersfield, California, to the late James Moore and Myrtle Jones.

Bernice is survived by her loving partner, Supt. James Smith, and their four children: Jackie Smith, Arnold Smith, Rose Mary Hollins (spouse Supt. Willie Hollins), and Barbara Brooks (spouse Jerry Brooks). She also leaves behind four grandchildren.

Bernice spent her days working as a homemaker, but her true joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her skills in the kitchen and could whip up a delicious meal in no time.

When she wasn't cooking up a storm, Bernice could often be found in the garden, tending to her beloved plants, or sitting at the kitchen table, engrossed in a crossword puzzle. She had a knack for solving even the most challenging clues.

Bernice will be remembered for her warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace.
