Benny Walley, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and devoted member of the Palestine community, passed away on July 18, 2023, at the age of 77. He was the son of Andrew and Willie Bell Walley, and grew up in Pascagoula, MS, later moving to Mobile, AL where he made a lasting impact on those around him. Benny and Jo Ellan moved to East Texas in 2001 and it became home.
Benny joined the US Army and served his country in Vietnam with honor and bravery. His dedication and commitment were evident throughout his military career, and he was highly respected by his fellow soldiers.
Benny is preceded in death by Andrew Walley, father; Willie Bell Walley, mother; Jerry Walley, brother; Robert Walley, brother; Bertha Lawson, sister; Billy Walley, brother; Don Walley, brother; Carolyn Landrum, sister; and infant Walley, brother.
Benny was a loving partner to Jo Ellan and together they built a beautiful life with no bucket list item left. They were blessed with a blended family of four children, Lynda with spouse ED, Robin with spouse David, Dale with spouse Brandy, and Jarod with spouse Valerie, who brought immense joy and happiness to their lives. Benny's children were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them, and providing them with unconditional love.
Benny's legacy extends beyond his immediate family, as he was also a proud grandfather. He leaves behind eight grandchildren; Elizabeth, Samantha, Bethani, Fayth, Anthony, Brantley, Casey, and Christina who fondly remember him as a source of wisdom, laughter, and unwavering support. He also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life, Benny was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others. He had a warm and inviting presence, and his ability to connect with people was truly remarkable. Benny's genuine compassion and empathy touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In his free time, Benny enjoyed various hobbies. He was an avid reader who found solace in books and news especially current events and was always eager to learn something new. Benny also had a passion for anything outside, travel, adventure, and any engineering project. His projects can be seen in so many places including custom designed and fabricated iron work in Mobile, AL on Dauphin and Royal Streets and so many streets and neighborhoods in the city.
Benny battled Parkinson's Disease in his last ten years with strength and resilience. Despite the challenges he faced, he never lost his sense of humor or his ability to find joy in the simplest of pleasures. Benny faced his illness with unwavering courage, fighting the fight each day with a positive spirit inspiring all those around him.
The loss of Benny Walley leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones and community. However, his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched. Although we mourn his passing, we take solace knowing that Benny is now at peace, in the arms of his Lord and Savior and reunited with his loved ones who passed before him.
