Bennie Lee Thompson, 76, departed this life and went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016. He was born on April 28, 1940, in Vaught Ridge, the son of the late Charlie and Armilda Wesley Thompson. He retired as a supervisor from Frazier Paper Mill of Dayton, Ohio. He also worked for many years for Carrier Air Conditioning factory. He served them in the Middle East for which he was very proud. Bennie shared his belief in the Lord Jesus Christ with whoever he came into contact with. He was an excellent writer and blessed to have several of his writings published. There was one special story, "Dad's Old Handkerchief," that was about his dad, Charlie Thompson. It was arranged into a song. Bennie was nominated and awarded the Georgia Gospel Country and Bluegrass Association Hall of Fame Award in 2015. Bennie is survived by his wife, Vivian Todd Thompson of Somerset; two sons, Barry Thompson of Arizona, and Chris (Lisa) Thompson of Ohio; three daughters, Kathy (Eric) Thompson of Arizona, Robyn (Jeff) Liffick of Tipp City, Ohio, and Lisa Thompson James of Fairborn, Ohio; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Curtis (Belinda) McKnight and Crystal (Tim) Cox, both of Somerset; and a grandson, Brendan McKnight; his two brothers, Ronnie (Kathy) Thompson of Somerset and Merrell Thompson of Russell Springs; eight sisters, Norma Coner, Genece (Lowell) Daulton, Juritha (Ronald) Beshears, Donna Mink and Marsha (Tim) Chaney, all of Somerset, Faye (Dale) Hopper of Independence, Edna (Sonia) Burkhart of Blanchester, Ohio, and Felicia (Don) Armstrong of Rising Sun, Indiana; also a sister-in-law, Joyce Thompson of Franklin, Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends in Somerset, Kentucky, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia, West Virginia and all over the state of Georgia, plus many more places. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Jerrell, Fred and James Thompson; and a sister, Evelene Yaden.Visitation for Bennie Lee Thompson is at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Bourne Avenue in Somerset. The funeral service is at 1 p.m. Monday at the church with Brothers Bobby Clark, Ron Shepherd and Randy Wiles officiating.
