Barbara Kay Santos, age 68, of Godfrey, Illinois, formerly of Edwardsville, Illinois, died at 10:00 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the University Nursing and Rehab Center in Edwardsville. She was born on August 30, 1948, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of the late Richard L. Shields & Mary M. (Burns) Wojtczuk and step daughter of the late Walter J. Wojtczuk. She married Joseph M. Santos on January 27, 1967, in East St. Louis, and he preceded her in death. Barbara worked as a registered nurse, a nursing home administrator and then became an ordained Christian minister. She is survived by a daughter, Christine Schaefer & husband Leo of Holiday Shores, two sisters, Patricia "Pat" Miller of Columbia, Illinois, Theresa Mooney of Belleville, Illinois; close friend Thelma "Peggy" Ruhmann of Hamel, Illinois; and two care givers, Kelly Allen of Alton & Mary Stepney of Edwardsville. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary DeZuniga. Barbara was a past member of Leclaire Christian Church, member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Fraternity, a Director of Women in Transition, and was very active with United Methodist Village in Godfrey. She was cremated according to her wishes. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Leclaire Christian Church in Edwardsville. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church with Rev. Jim Johnston officiating. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
