Barbara L. Giannetti, age 80, of Greenbush died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at her home. She was born on Oct. 3, 1932 in Detroit to the late Elmer and Dorothea Hoetger (nee Poole). Barbara grew up in the Melvindale community and later graduated from Allen Park High School and Henry Ford College with a social work degree. She married Fred Giannetti on Oct. 15, 1947 and continued to work as a social worker for the Six Area Coalition, a crisis center for over 20 years. Barbara and her husband then owned and operated Big G's Landing restaurant and bar in Trenton from 1985 until 1988 when they moved from Taylor to Greenbush. They purchased the Thunderbird Resort and Desi's Family Dining. Barbara's dream of having all of her family working together to create a family dining experience at Desi's became a reality. She was a true "family architect" and made sure family was first and most important above all. Barbara enjoyed her family trips to Florida, Mackinaw Island and many other places along with camping trips to the U.P. of Michigan. She loved watching her family in sporting events, dance recitals, ice shows and just enjoying each other. Barbara especially loved her 13 wonderful years with "Grandma's Peach," her granddaughter, Emily. She was a selfless and intelligent woman who lived for her family and made all of her 80 years count by spending time with the ones she loved most. Barbara is survived by her son, Timothy (Vicki) Giannetti of Greenbush; daughter, Nancy (Barry) Lockenour of Greenbush; and her granddaughter, Emily Lockenour. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Giannetti in 1994; and son, Randy Giannetti in 2003. Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 4 at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda. Rev. Thomas Barbret officiated and interment followed in Oscoda Pinecrest Cemetery. Memorials contributions may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to U of M Cancer Research Center and condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
