Barbara J. Murray-Roes, 86, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2016 at Hudson Park Nursing Home in Albany. The daughter of the late Fred and Ila (Lawyer) Montgomery, she was born on September 26, 1930 in Schenectady, NY. In March of 1947 she married Arnold T. Murray. They were happily married for 49 years. Together they were avid country music fans and enjoyed square dancing. Barbara was a professional cake decorator for many years. After Arnold's passing, Barbara was involved in TOPS Club, Inc., where she was a passionate leader. She was also a bookkeeper for Zandri Construction in Cohoes. Six years ago she married, Herbert Roes, and together they happily lived in Niskayuna, until his passing in August of 2016. They were both involved with Niskayuna Reformed Church and the Boy Scouts, which Herb was a member of for over 70 years. Barbara is survived by her children, Kim I. (Darran) Leaderach, Scott (Kathleen) Murray and Kenneth (Anne Hickok) Murray; her grandchildren, Jesse Murray and Alyssa Murray; her two great-grandchildren, Adrianna and Madison Murray; her sisters, Marion Laven and Jane (Bob) Jennings; her sister-in-law, Frances Montgomery; her step-children, Trish (Bob) Harrington and Paul Roes; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Zoe. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Arnold; and her second husband, Herbert; her brothers, Robert and Harold Montgomery; and her brother-in-law, Frank Laven. Barbara's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at St. Peter's, especially the nurses and aides on the 6th floor and the staff on the 5th floor at Hudson Park Nursing Home for their loving and compassionate care. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 14 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15 at Niskayuna Reformed Church, 3041 Troy Schenectady Road, Niskayuna. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's name to Niskayuna Reformed Church, 3041 Troy Schenectady Road, Niskayuna, NY 12309 or Animal Protection Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
