LORAIN – Barbara Berdy Beatty, age 84, of Lorain passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on March 11, 1932 in Butler, Pennsylvania to Michael and Eva Berdy and graduated from Butler High School in 1950.She made her career as a nurse and supervisor, working for a combined 43 years at St. Joseph Hospital within the psychiatric unit and in maternity ward for 18 years. She was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, the Lakeland Colony Club, Bridge Club, Lorain Lovelies, and the Lorain Historical Society. She enjoyed supporting and contributing to many charitable organizations and numerous causes. Barbara had an enormous heart filled with passion, compassion and empathy. She had unrelentless perseverance and an ability to forge ahead regardless of what life dealt her. She drew delight from her 9 grandchildren and they brightened her day when around them. She was the ultimate sports fan who loved her Indians, Buckeyes, Browns and Cavs and had quite the watch collection, with a watch to match every outfit. We will always hold loving memories of our mother, the way her outfits always complement, her Special all Santa Holiday tree, her extraordinary watch collection tree and they way she smiled & interacted with complete strangers. She was a true original. We are all so fortunate to have her in our lives Barbara loved her family, friends, her town and her life and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her children, Mike (Mary) Beatty, of Lorain, Sam (DeAnn) Beatty, of Amherst, Barb (Albert) Wittkopp , of Dublin, OH, Chris (Elaine) Newnan, of Georgia, Julie Beatty, of Columbus; and Jim (Deeann) Beatty, of Avon; 9 grandchildren, Jonathan, Brett, Amber, Jack, Maggie, Katie, Albert, Anna, and Aileen. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, John S. Beatty, in 1987 and her parents, Eva and Michael Berdy. The Beatty family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral &Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where a memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Pastor Gregg Sellers, of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church will officiate.
