Audrey Clare BlizzardAudrey Clare Blizzard, 85, of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at St. Elizabeth East. She was born on April 12, 1929 to Leonard and Minnie (Datzman) Freeland in Benton County, Indiana. Audrey attended school at Sacred Heart School in Fowler and St. Boniface in Lafayette. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Lafayette in 1947. In 1949, she married Howard Lee Smith and they later divorced. In 1979, she married Clyde Blizzard in Lafayette and he preceded her in death in 2001. Before her retirement, Audrey had worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital and for Dr. Harold Hebard. Audrey's first love was her family and she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always willing to listen and offer advice and prayer. Her second love was reading. She always talked fondly of her memory of checking out Peter Rabbit on her first visit to the Fowler Library. She was a member of St. Lawrence parish since 1957 and her faith carried her through many trying times, especially during her illnesses these last few years. She enjoyed meeting the girls from St. Francis for lunch. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and a former member of the Lion's Lioness Club and Faithful City Prayer Group. Audrey enjoyed traveling and camping with Clyde. Surviving are her daughters, Cynthia (Clifton) Smith and Constance Smith, both of Lafayette; her stepchildren, C. Robert (Sara) Blizzard of Clearwater, FL, Howard L. (Paulyne) Blizzard of Perth, Australia, Patrick G. Blizzard of Auburn, WA, Rosemary B. Tudor of Indianapolis, and Marilyn K. Rogers of Lafayette; grandchildren, Nathan (Misty) Smith of Lafayette, Carla (Jimmy) Johnson of New Brighton, PA, Rita (Dr. Thomas) Shutes of Lafayette, and Benjamin (Kizzy) Smith of Lafayette; and stepgrandchildren, Genevieve Willamson, Paul Blizzard, Joann Blizzard, David Blizzard, Patrick Tudor, John Rogers, Cynthia Lantigua, and Glenn Rogers. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat grandchildren; and her cat, Esmeralda. She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Audrey Shutes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 3rd at 10 a.m. at St Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Stephen Duquaine officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, November 2nd from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Lawrence Church or to Cure SMA.
