GALAX -- Arthur T. "Buck" Burcham, 85, of Galax passed away December 1, 2014 in the Twin County Regional Hospital. He was born on June 5, 1929 to Robert and Rausey Burcham.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Mae Leonard and Faye Diamond; and a brother, Arnold Burcham.He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was conducted in a POW Camp for almost three years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Cox Burcham; daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and C. Hal Sutphin, all of Galax; sisters and brother-in-law, Norma and Jack Easter of Midlothian, Diana Delp of Powhatan, Alma Vaughan of Galax; brothers and sister-in-law, Archie and Iva Burcham of Galax, Buford Burcham of Winston-Salem, N.C.; granddaughter, Leisa Sutphin; step-grandsons and spouses, Cory and Anna Sutphin of Galax, Mitchell and Kristin Sutphin of Check, three step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and spouses, Sylvia and Pete Killon, Jo Ann and Jim Jennings, all of Galax; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted December 3 in the Mount Vale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brandon Berg officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Vale Cemetery with military rites performed by Grayson County VFW Post 7726.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mount Vale United Methodist Church, 3350 Meadow Creek Road, Galax, VA 24333 or to the .Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home of Galax.
