TUNKHANNOCK — Arthur Andrew Johnson Sr., 68, of Tunkhannock, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016. He was born on Nov. 29, 1947, in Scranton, son of Rosella (Yurksza) Johnson and the late Arthur E. Johnson.
Arthur grew up in Tunkhannock and graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School in 1966. Art worked at the Endicott Johnson Shoe factory in Tunkhannock for 23 years and afterward for the Tunkhannock Area School District for 20 years, retiring at age 62.
He and his brother, Don, played little league baseball when they were kids and in baseball leagues when they were adults. He was a dedicated "Yankees" and NY Giants fan all of his life. Artie enjoyed classical country music, especially Johnny Cash and the Statler Brothers. He went to the American Theater in Lancaster with his daughter to see the Statler Brothers. And in August of 1995, he went with his son to see Johnny Cash at Harveys Lake.
He enjoyed his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Every year we took our grandchildren to Knoebels Amusement Park in Elysburg to ride the rides and enjoy the goodies. Artie enjoyed going to the movies with his son, grandchildren and wife. Everyday his daughter talked to him on the phone. Art enjoyed the men's bible study group at the Waverly Community Church in Dalton. We will miss Art's sense of humor and love for family and friends.
In addition to his father, Art was preceded in death by his loving brother, Don Johnson.
Arthur is survived by Kathy, his wife of 46 years, of Tunkhannock; his son, Arthur A. Johnson Jr. and wife, Mildred, of Tunkhannock; daughter, Kimberly Johnson Brown and husband, Andrew, of Horsham; three granddaughters, Katie Johnson, of Tunkhannock, and Jordan and Cameron Brown, of Horsham; grandsons, Connor Brown, of Horsham, and Kyle Johnson, of Tunkhannock; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with Pastor James Cohen of the Waverly Community Church, and Pastor Gary Myers officiating. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the funeral home.
