Arnie was born on August 26, 1939 in Pittsburgh, PA to Roland Anthony Magnelli and Bette Hay (Dailey). He graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958 and served for 6 years. He met his first wife, Jeri Shelton, while both served on the USS Saratoga in New York. He began his career with Retail Credit Company, who later became Equifax, Inc.
