This obituary is administered by:
Arline Rogers passed away on August 17, 2016 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family friends, Shirley and Dave Heathman, Bob and Kris Redman, Lori and John Oberg and Becky Redman and Denise Mathews. She had been taken care of in the home of Shirley and Dave in California City, CA Arline was born on June 26, 1943 in Bishop, CA. Her parents were Floyd and Tess Herzig. At the time of her birth, her parents owned and operated the Rock Creek Resort in the Sierras. Her father worked as a summer fishing tour guide and her mother was a teacher in the Bishop area. Arline attended Hot Creek Hatchery School and then Bishop Union Elementary School. Arline graduated from Bishop High School in 1961. Her college years were spent at Pasadena City College where she participated as an exchange student to Guatemala while studying Spanish. After completing her AA in Spanish, and a semester at Cal State Fullerton, she lived and studied in Mexico City for three and a half years and completed her Bachelors Degree at the University of the Americas in Mexico City. On returning to California she completed a semester of work at Cal State Los Angeles in order to obtain her teaching credential for secondary education. Arline taught at Rosemead High School for 10 years, primarily Spanish 1 through 1V and English as a second Language. She then returned closer to her roots to teach at Big Pine High School where she taught English and Art to 7th graders. Arline transitioned from teaching to real estate where she met and later married Tom Rogers who owned Rogers Realty in Bishop. Arline and Tom operated the business together until their retirement. They eventually resettled in the Big Pine, CA community, which they loved. One of their most enjoyable pastimes during their marriage was square dancing. They traveled to competitions with the friends they made through dancing and who remained lifelong friends. In approximately 2006 Tom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He passed away in 2011, leaving Arline heartbroken. However she continued working with one of her other passions at the Big Pine Library until her retirement. Tom and Arline had a very devoted love that lasted 36 years. The Redman family were lifelong friends of Tom's due to a friendship he had with our father in the 1940's. The two of them rode across country from Washington, DC to California on motorcycles in about 1948. When Arline came into Tom's life, the friendship between the families blossomed and was cherished by us all. At Arline's request there will be no service. However, if you would like to make a donation in her memory to one of her favorite charities such as animal rescue, mountain education, crafter groups or your local library, it would be very much appreciated. Memories and messages may be left at
shyheathman@gmail.com.Tom and Arline's wishes were for their ashes to be scattered together. However, we are unable to locate paperwork indicating who is in possession of Tom's ashes. Arline had mentioned a trusted friend was holding them for her. If you have any information on this we would very much appreciate it so that we can honor their wishes. Thank you.
You can to the family or in memory of ARLINE ROGERS.
