Arletta Louise RodgersMay 12, 2017Arletta Louise Rodgers née Tinsley of Cape Coral, Florida passed away peacefully with her loving daughter by her side on Friday, May 12, 2017 following unexpected health complications. She was 98 years old.Arletta was born on February 14, 1919 in Orange, Virginia, the youngest daughter of Pearl Lillie (Craun) and William Wood Tinsley. She was the second of four siblings in the Tinsley family, sadly preceded in death by Mildred Freeland née Tinsley, William Wood Tinsley and Wallace Meredith Tinsley.She was married in NYC to Robert Gregg Rodgers who sadly preceded her in death in 1991. Arletta is survived by her daughter Jane Tinsley and son-in-law Fredrik Wanger of Massachusetts; by grandchildren Jael Lynne Roberge of New Hampshire and Charles Gregory Wanger of Costa Rica; five great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild; nieces and nephews Jeanne Tinsley Donaldson; Patty Joanne Bembry née Tinsley (d.) and William Wood Tinsley; Karen Tinsley Neubert, Ralph Warren Tinsley (d.), Wallace Wayne Tinsley and Grimes Meredith Tinsley.When her family moved to Fort Myers, Arletta often went with her father, William, an electrician, to Thomas Edison's house, and had tea with Mrs. Edison on their front porch. Her father also helped wire lamps on the original Fort Myers Bridge.Arletta worked in the Pension Trust Fund Division of the New York Life Insurance Company during her New York years.In retirement, Arletta was active in many sports and was graciously competitive: she garnered trophies for golf and tennis and was a passionate bridge player. She was also an enthusiastic barbershop quartet singer who sang with Sweet Adeline's. Arletta spent her last happy years at Gulf Coast Village in Cape Coral with the loving care and companionship of her devoted aide, Sherline.A Memorial Service for Arletta will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2017 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555.
