Ardis Aldon Smith, 97, of Springfield, OR passed away Nov. 6, 2016 from Prostate Cancer. He was born on June 27, 1919 to Arthur and Grace Smith in Centralia, WA. He was briefly married to Dorothy Babbitt on March 17, 1940. He married Josephine Lou Blake on June 24, 1950. She passed away from cancer in Dec. 2, 1975. He married Ila Mae Fristad on June 13, 1976. Ardis owned his own logging truck and proudly carried around his logging pictures. His favorite one was his one log load. He later went into home building in the local area. He worked into his mid 80s. He was a strong and hard worker. He was quite a character and the friendliest person you would ever know. Ardis is survived by his wife, Ila, and his 3 sons: Gary of Creswell; Ron of Springfield; and Tracy of Denver, CO. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two daughters. His daughter, Karen Snow, passed away the same day. She died a few hours before he did. His toddler daughter, Kristina, died Dec. 5, 1969. His Memorial will be held Dec. 3 at the Springfield Seventh Day Adventist Church at 3:00 P.M. A reception will be held for family and out of town visitors following the service. Remembrances can be made in Ardis' honor to Eugene Mission or to Food for Lane County.
