ROY - After living a good life filled with service, friends, family and inspiration to others, Arden Nahum Porter passed away of heart failure at his home the evening of Oct. 16, 2008, and returned to his Heavenly Father. He was born on May 4, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Naomi Marie Gunderson and Glen Clayton Porter. Because his father was in the Armed Services, the family moved often and Arden attended nine different schools. He graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah, and then attended Utah State University. Always a competitive, talented athlete, he played basketball and baseball at North Cache and was on the Utah State basketball team. He played baseball for the Smithfield Blue Sox, where he still holds many records. Later he played on a softball team with his two sons. In later years, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren as they participated in sports. Arden married his high school sweetheart, Rozann Hillyard, on Sept. 19, 1957, in the Logan LDS Temple. They have four children; Lori (Paul) Anderson of Novi, Mich.; Robert (Jackie) Porter, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Jed (Susan) Porter of Roy, Utah; and Amy (Dave) Tafoya of Roy, Utah. They also have 12 grandchildren. Arden has one brother, Doug, and four sisters, Glennis, Lannette, Cindy and Janice. He was a High Priest and a home teacher in the Monte Vista Ward. He retired from "The National Enquirer Magazine" as a district sales manager and then did some substitute teaching. He enjoyed traveling, square dancing, camping, gardening and collecting coins. He loved watching and cheering for BYU and the Jazz while enjoying a Pepsi and a bowl of popcorn. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 South. Family and friends may call at the mortuary on from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday. Thanks to Dr. Holland and Hospice, especially Crystal and Vickie, for their tender loving care for Arden. Interment will be at the Smithfield City Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at which time friends and family will meet. E-mail condolences to the family at www.lindquistmortuary.com.
