Schulist, AntonAnton J. Schulist, 90, of Stevens Point, died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 26, 2017, at the Portage County Health Care Center.He was born on Aug. 14, 1926, on the family farm in the town of Sharon to the late Matthew and Clara (Brychell) Schulist.He entered the U.S. Army on July 15, 1952, in Milwaukee; and was honorably discharged on June 21, 1954, at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois, at the rank of Corporal. He had served with the 265th Field Artillery Battalion, in the United States and Germany, and earned the Occupation Medal and National Defense Service Medal.His marriage to Rita Wroblewski took place on Nov. 19, 1955, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia.Tony worked at Joerns Furniture for 33 years and retired in 1988. He loved working in his workshop at his home, building and refinishing furniture, and was a master craftsman - taking old furniture people brought to him and turning it into beautiful antiques. He also enjoyed taking care of his yard, visiting with his family and friends and taking short trips.Survivors include his wife, Rita of Stevens Point; one son, Gregory (Susan) Schulist of Stevens Point; three granddaughters, Nicole (Adam) Heck of Plover, Kimberly Schulist of Stevens Point, Alyssa Schulist of Phoenix, Arizona; two great-grandsons, Walker and Evan Heck; one brother, Joseph (Joan) Schulist of California; and three sisters, Sr. Patrice Schulist of Custer, Harriet (Frances) Wysocki of Custer, and Patricia (Anton) Dobrauc of Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben and Dominic Schulist; two sisters, Mary Gabor and Ann Omernick; two brothers-in-law, Robert Omernik and Ray Gabor; and one sister-in-law, Eveyln Schulist.A memorial will be established in Tony's name to Operation Bootstrap and the of Wisconsin.The family thanks the nurses and staff at the Portage County Health Care Center for their great care.The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time for Mass.
