Anderson Williams was the fourth child of eleven born to James I. Williams and Edna Lane Williams. Born in June of 1922 in Tunica, Louisiana. Morals were set early by both parents. "To get anywhere you had to study your books and work very hard to achieve your dreams", his parents said. He did just that.

Anderson accepted Christ at an early age and remained faithful to his Lord and Savior throughout life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Esh, Charlie, George, James I. Jr., Earl Long and John V.; also three sisters: Annie Williams, Idell Williams Toad and Florida Williams Montgomery.

Anderson had to leave the comfort of his parents home to attend high school in New Orleans because there was no high school for Blacks in Tunica. His aunts and dear friends took him in and provided encouragement that helped him succeed. He dropped out of high school to serve his country in the Army in WWII. Anderson rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving thirty-eight months in the Philippines. After returning home he returned to high school and graduated from McDonald #35, in New Orleans, LA.

He also met and married Jettye Roberts, from that union a beautiful daughter was born, Patricia Joyce. He used the G.I. Education Bill to enter Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Anderson graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Business College at Southern University. He was nicknamed “Brainy”. He went on to the University of Illinois, in Champaign, IL and received his Master’s Degree in Accounting.

His first teaching experience was at Huston Tillotson University in

Austin, TX. Anderson also worked at the United States Post Office in Chicago, IL. until acquiring his Internal Revenue Agent’s position in Detroit, MI. He retired from the IRS after 33 years of service. Not one to sit and be idle he became a Detroit Election Board Supervisor, a Metro Cars driver and a tax preparer for H & R Block.

While in Chicago in 1955, he met and married the love of his life, Elaine S. Evans. From this union two adorable, loving and spirit-filled children were born, A’ndrea and Ivan Gerard.

Anderson is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Gamma Lambda Chapter, Detroit, MI. He was initiated at Southern University in 1948 into Beta Sigma Chapter. Other organizations were the NAACP (National Association of Colored People), The Charles H. Wright MAAH (Museum of African American History), NARFE (National Association of Federal Employees), an auxiliary member of The Lunch Bunch (Red Hatters, affiliated). Andy was a charter contributor to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. and New Orleans, L.A.

He joined Plymouth Congregational Church the first Sunday in August in 1955. He served as Deacon, Trustee, Trustee Committee Secretary, The Anniversary Club, The Men’s Club, The Celebration of Life Committee and was also an Usher Board Emeritus member. Anderson was the President of the Plymouth Medical Center Housing Board for over twenty-five years. He initiated the name change, “The Rev Dr. Nicholas Hood Sr. Medical Center Housing Courts”. In 2011 he was awarded the distinctive honor of becoming the first “President Emeritus” of Plymouth Medical Center Housing Board.

Andy loved to travel, he visited 49 of the 50 United States. He also journeyed to China, Japan, Canada, Halifax Nova Scotia, Mexico, Venezuela and the East and West Caribbean’s. While in the United States Army he also visited Brisbane, Australia. He loved Jazz Concerts and Theater Tours. Andy was a novice skier and once belong to the Jim Dandy Ski Club.

Anderson is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Elaine S. Williams three children Patricia Watson, Baton Rouge, LA, A’ndrea Williams Miller, Houston, TX, Ivan (Patricia) Williams, Houston, TX, Goddaughter Elaine Linnear (Bobby) Savannah, Matteson, IL, one sister, Eloise Williams Lindsay of New Orleans, LA, Sisters-in-Laws; Doris S. Evans, Adelaide F. Carroll and Mildred (Dr Earl) Shelton. Our Other Children Gary, Lisa and Haley Donaldson, of Tallahassee, FL. Grandchildren: Kathy (Will Lewis) Kennedy, Candice Michelle Williams, Bryan Keith Miller II, Angela Lauren Miller and Jasmine Renee Barnes. Great Grands: Thomas Watson, Bobby Ray Kennedy Jr., Kabria Kennedy, Malaysia Le’Anne Lewis, Alyssia Williams and Mikayla White. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, very special friends and neighbors to cherish and admire his life.
