Alice Massey SmithSt. GeorgeAlice Massey Smith passed away on December 13, 2016, following a battle with cancer. She was born on July 22, 1928, in Shreveport, LA, to William Benson and Ruby Stahl Massey. Alice graduated high school at the age of 16. Following her adventurous spirit she went to Colorado State University where she took mountaineering. She then attended LSU Baton Rouge where she met a handsome, intelligent, and rather devilish young man from Tallulah, LA, George Leslie Smith, Jr. Alice and Les were married on March 12, 1948. They were well matched in intelligence, laughter, wit, curiosity, and love of life. Their first child, Steven William Smith was born and was quickly followed by Sylvia Sue Smith, Victoria Ann Smith, and supposedly their last child, Alice Leslie Smith. Five years later, they were surprised with the birth of Amy Marie Smith, and they had an even bigger surprise eight years after that, when Diana Lynne Smith was born. Being extremely artistic and gifted, Alice excelled at whatever she put her hand to. An excellent seamstress, she created everything from blankets to elaborate wedding dresses. Alice crocheted countless items from afghans to doll clothes. She decorated cakes, painted, made ceramics, and created many lovely works of art. Many benefitted from the works of her hands. Alice left a legacy of kindness, service and joy, but her greatest gifts were her acceptance and love for all around her. Many are those who found refuge in her compassion and belief in their goodness. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Alice served in many ways and callings over the years. Her greatest service was to her family who will miss her unwavering love, support, and faith in them. Alice was preceded in death by: parents William Benson Massey and Ruby Stahl; husband, George Leslie Smith Jr.; her sister Virginia Stahl Marcantel; and her grandchildren Johnathan Scott Harris, Sarah Elisabeth Ladd, James Michael Ladd, and Nathaniel Teasley Ladd. She is survived by: her six children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A bright and loving spirit with an acute sense of humor, and a smile for everyone, Alice will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Clara 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 3040 West Santa Clara Dr., Santa Clara, UT. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will take place at Roseneath Cemetery in Bossier City, LA. Friends and family are invited to share condolences online at
