LexingtonOkcuoglu, Alice Everett Clarke Cooper,92, of Lexington, died on July 22, 2017. Alice was born on January 6, 1925, in Louisville to William F. and Jane C. Clarke. She married Peter Albert Cooper of Englewood, New Jersey, on February 10, 1951 and following Peter's death in 1976, she married Selahattin (Selah) Okculoglu on September 22, 1985.She grew up in Louisville, where her older sister, Jane C. Morrow, still resides. After graduating in 1944 from Stephens College (AA, Aviation) in Columbia, MO and the University of Louisville (BA, Psychology) in 1947, she moved to New York City. In 1958, she moved to Lexington. During WW II, she was a "Rosy the Riveter" at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft in Louisville modifying B-245s and also worked as a machinist at a large caliber ammunitions plant. She worked for TWA for numerous years in NYC, then in later years worked part time for the US Departments of Census and Agriculture (tobacco market) in Lexington. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Junior League, Central Kentucky Women's Club, NARFE, and a lifetime member of PTA. In her "younger" years she was very active in the Fayette County Republican Club. Alice was proud to be a Kentucky Colonel. Alice was always filled with adventure, from moving to NYC alone as a young woman to find a job in an exciting city, to introducing her 3 children to a lifetime of hiking, tent camping, and boating. She always encouraged her children to explore new things and the world. Her world traveling began as a young woman and continued throughout her lifetime. Alice and Selah enjoyed exploring the world through numerous cruises and other travels to all parts of the world, but NYC continued to be her favorite city. Alice is survived by her husband Selah Okcuoglu and her three children, Alice Cooper Fuerst (Leland), Missouri; Peter Cooper (Amy), Wilmore; and William Clarke Cooper (Charlotte), Florida. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Christina Fuerst Harrison (Eric), Virginia; Melissa Fuerst VonOhlen (Cole), Colorado; William Cooper (Erin), Indiana; Joseph Cooper, Lexington; Samuel Cooper, Lexington; Carli Cooper Brtalik (Doug Brtalik), Tennessee; Courtney Cooper Harrison (Bert), Idaho; Callie Cooper, Oregon; one great grandchild; two stepchildren, Errol Archerson (Kathy), Louisville; Suzanne Taylor (Larry), Waddy; five step grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren.Private Graveside services will be officiated by Alice's step-son, Errol Archerson at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville. Memorial donations may be made to the Second Presbyterian Church Meals on Wheels program.
