Alfrone Jones, age 70, passed away at his home in Hyattsville, Maryland on Thursday, January 03, 2019. He was the third oldest of 8 children born to John and Eartha Mae Jones. Alfrone graduated from Dunbar Senior High School where he was a star athlete in basketball and softball.

Alfrone was best known as “Poochie” to his family. Poochie was married to his high school sweetheart, Simone Renee Jones, for 50 years. They were a testament to the commitment of love and marriage. Together they enjoyed traveling around locally to visit casinos in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

Al or Big Al, as he was known to his colleagues, worked as a Bus Driver and Dispatcher for the DC Department of Parks and Recreation until he retired in 2016. He was known for his sense of humor and his dedication to the job. Prior to working for DPR, Al worked for Safeway Inc. and was a star of the company softball team. His love of sports led him to play semi-pro softball with a team at RIPs ballfield in Bowie, MD.

Poochie is survived by 2 children: Nicole Renee (Kevin Guinyard), and DeShawn Monique (Marcellus Shepard); his only sister, Cynthia Poole; two brothers, Kenneth Jones and John Jones II; 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Dominic, Tiarra, Ricky, Jordan, Justin, and Jalen; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Family, friends and others who knew Poochie are invited to join the family for services on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at The Way of the Cross Church of Christ at 1800 Hazelwood Drive, Capitol Heights, MD 20743. The viewing will start at 9:30am and run until the funeral begins at 11am.
