Alfred J. Hughes, also known as “Al” transitioned quietly from his earthly life on April 25, 2023, at VA Hospital in Dublin GA. He was born at home in Wilkinson Co what was once known as the “Po House Quarters” to Joe Annie Orr-Hughes and the late Eddie Lee Williams (TH). He is preceded in death by one sister, Burnette Hughes-Shines.
At an early age, Alfred joined Brundage Mt Baptist Church. He was educated at Wilco Sr. High School, class of 78. He joined the United States Army in 1979 where he served until, he received an Honorable discharged in 1984.
Alfred knew his time was coming so he returned home to spend it with his mother and his sisters. If you knew Alfred, then you knew he LOVED his sisters!
He leaves to cherish in his memory his mother: Joe Annie Orr-Hughes, six sisters, Marilyn (Garfield) Woodberry, of Detroit, Michigan; Juanita (Michael) Simmons, of Milledgeville GA; Almedith Orr, of Irwinton GA; Jacqueline (Ralph) Brown; Milledgeville GA; Camille (Adarryl) Covin, of Jacksonville FL; Jennifer Nesbitt of Byron GA; two brothers, Tracy Orr of Gulfport Mississippi; Keith (Melanie) Nesbitt of Jacksonville FL. Six Aunts, Elizabeth Adside of Dublin GA; Monia Hughes of Miami FL; Francenia Whipple of Macon GA; Annie B. Lewis of Milledgeville GA; Linda (Albert) Cummings, of Loganville GA; Willie Pearl Vinson, of Louisville KY; and Four Uncles, John (Laverne) Williams of Irwinton GA; Bill (Hurman) Zachary, Steve (Ruby) Zachary, and Harry Zachary all of Milledgeville GA.
He also leaves a devoted friend, Mr. Charles, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
