Adrian Darrell BlauJanuary 29, 1933 - January 26, 2017Adrian Darrell Blau passed away on January 26, 2017, in Logan, Utah. He was born on January 29, 1933, at the Blau Ranch in Kansas, to George Blau and Leeta Richardson Blau.He moved to Nibley, Utah, when he was 3 years old and helped the family on the farm. He learned to quilt from his mom and was always good with his hands and could fix anything. He joined the Army at 18 and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, WA. He would attend church at the 1st Ward in Tacoma because he didn't like to go on base. This is where he met the love of his life and the lady that would become his eternal companion, Shirley Winder. Shirley was living with her grandparents who had previously lived in Clarkston, Utah. He used the Utah connection to speak with Shirley's Grandpa in an effort to get her attention. Their Sunday school class went out in a big boat to watch the Tacoma sky, Shirley got cold and Adrian offered her his jacket. This was how they started dating. When Adrian decided he wanted to propose to Shirley, they went for a ride, he was so nervous that he had his friend Kelton drive around until he worked up the courage to propose. They were sealed in the Logan Temple on April 1, 1955. They lived in Logan and Adrian attended school at Utah State University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. They later moved to Richmond, Utah, where they raised their family of 10 Children. Raylene (Larry) Kimber, Kevin (Nansi) Blau, Merlynn (Pete) Gailey, Sharon (Scott) Robinette, Marianne (Richard) Gailey, Kerry (Heather) Blau, Mark Blau, Janalee Blau who passed away when she was 2 months old, Angelena (Marlin) Goodpasture, Myron Blau. They developed many wonderful long-lasting relationships while living in Richmond and had the best neighbors anyone could ever have. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, 9 children, 29 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, and 2 grandsons.He worked for Utah State University for many years in the chemistry department. He left the university to pursue his talents in glassblowing. He was a very talented artist making many beautiful artistic figurines out of glass. Next to the love he felt for his family, he loved to working his garden. He loved to plant, weed, and harvest the produce from the garden.In 1998 Adrian and Shirley served a successful CES mission for the LDS Church in Little Rock, AR. They returned home in 1999, but continued to serve by working in the seminary program at Sky View High School. After living in Richmond for 50 years, they sold their house and moved to Williamsburg in Logan, Utah. Then later moved to Sunshine Terrace where Adrian passed away. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Williamsburg, Sunshine Terrace, and the Nibley 3rd Ward and all those who helped take care for Adrian. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nyman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. in the LDS Chapel located at 8701 South 450 West in Nibley. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery following the funeral.
